Soil may become contaminated from a wide variety of sources which may present a risk to human health and / or the environment. CQ Soil Testing provides accurate and detailed soil testing and analysis for a wide variety of land development, government, commercial and industrial clients.

Federal and state regulatory agencies require minimum clean-up levels before property ownership can be transferred or construction undertaken. These levels can be specific to the intended use, whether commercial, industrial, or residential, and are intended to reduce the potential for human exposure to soil contaminants, either through direct ingestion, inhalation, or absorption through the skin.

CQ Soil Testing can undertake Environmental Site Assessments of potentially contaminated sites, such as a service station or sewage treatment plant. An Environmental Site Assessment may be needed where there is a proposed change in the use of the site, redevelopment of the site or the owner proposes to sell the site. It is also useful in establishing a reference point for the site to determine possible on-site contamination. An assessment may include:

  • Researching and collating information relating to historic land use of the site; undertaking necessary soil investigations;
  • Undertaking geological mapping of the site including reviewing geological and hydro-geological factors;
  • Contamination sampling in accordance with AS 4482.1 – “Guide to the sampling and investigation of potentially contaminated soil Part 1:Non-volatile and semi-volatile compounds” and AS 4482.2 – “Guide to the sampling and investigation of potentially contaminated soil Part 1: Volatile substances”; and
  • Identifying and classifying on-site contamination in accordance with the “Classification and Management of Contaminated Soil for Disposal Bulletin” Decommissioning of petrol stations in accordance with the “Underground Storage Tank Decommissioning Guidelines Bulletin”
